There had all along been criticisms about the nature and type of commitments and declarations that our leaders normally make and these criticisms might have emanated from the lack of clarity and/or targets. This time round, as evidenced by the Malabo Declaration, the commitments there are in are more concrete, including:
The migration of the youth to towns has left behind ageing farmers and declining traditional agricultural systems. Currently, the youth and young people constitute about 78% of Uganda’s population. According to a World Bank report of 2008, youth unemployment in Uganda is extremely high by any standards. The other East African Countries are not any better.
